Excessive coolant temps lead to over heating—and engine overheating is one of the most common problems faced by a diesel engine. Stuck thermostats, a failing engine fan, an undetected coolant leak, a bad water pump or a dirty cooling stack can all contribute to overheating. If neglected, elevated ECT can result in a blown head gasket, a warped cylinder head or even damaged cylinder liners.

Inspection of hoses, clamps and the radiator should be a part of your regular maintenance regimen, along with testing or flushing the engine’s antifreeze at the recommended interval.
